Educational Philosophy

At First Trinity, play is the bedrock of our curriculum.

This is not just what we believe; it’s what research shows – children learn best through meaningful play experiences. When children play they are actively involved in their learning, engaging their imagination and curiosity, practicing the skills they are developing and making sense and meaningful connections with the world around them. Through play children can develop their language, motor, cognitive, social, emotional and self-regulation skills. They also practice problem solving, critical thinking and decision making and gain confidence in themselves all while having fun and building a strong foundation for future academic success.

Our curriculum incorporates age appropriate concepts like colors, shapes, numbers, letters and Bible stories and play is the channel through which these concepts are taught. To maximize students’ learning time in the classroom, the day is intentionally formed around rich opportunities for hands-on play in a variety of settings – open gym time, small group opportunities in areas of the classroom, dress up, make-believe, creating, movement, building, sensory bins, and more. Although we do have opportunities for short teacher-led activities, they are meant to build students’ skill levels and experiences and add more tools to their play “toolbox.”

first trinity preschool staff and kid

I love First Trinity! My very shy and stubborn 2-year-old started going there and because of the genuinely caring and supportive teachers and administrator, he has transitioned very well and is much more open to the school-like environment. First Trinity has a family feeling you don’t hear about in many other preschools.

Typical Daily Schedule

Arrival/Dismissal

Classroom doors are open for arrival at 9:00 and dismissal at 11:30. Children are dropped off and picked up at their classroom door.

Bible Stories

We read and talk about Bible stories and sing some songs together to help us learn about God. Once a month we also have chapel in the church sanctuary.

Large Motor

We are able to have this time in our day, no matter the weather! If the weather is nice, we go outside to our playground and if it isn’t, we have a large gym to play in. In the gym we have fun playing with tricycles, balls, running, slides, and many other toys while we develop our large motor skills like running, kicking, skipping, throwing, catching, hopping, pedaling, etc.

Free Play/Centers

During this time, children are able to play and interact with their peers. Teachers work with students individually or in a small groups on art projects. There is so much learning that happens during free play – turn taking, sharing, communication/language, problem solving, math, fine motor, and so much more!

Circle

Circle time is the time to talk about the calendar, find out what the weather is, find out who has a classroom job, read a story, talk about the concepts that are being targeted in the classroom (color, shape, number, letter, etc.) and sing some songs.

Snack

Children take turns bringing a snack to share with their class. Allergies and dietary needs are accommodated as needed. Before we eat, we pray together and thank our friend for bringing the snack.

Let’s learn and grow together!
